Reports indicate that Sony has informed overseas sales partners that PS5 Pro inventory is currently limited due to phased supply constraints and high demand, a situation that could persist until early 2027. Shortages have also appeared in the European market, with channels such as PlayStation Direct in Germany currently out of stock.
The PS5 Pro price in Japan rose to 137,980 yen in April 2026, and supply became unstable around July. As of September 19, major electronics retailers in Japan were still not selling the console normally; the lowest price on comparison websites was 200,774 yen, approximately 63,000 yen higher than the official retail price.
New stock will continue to arrive at stores, but inventory may sell out quickly amid high demand. Current assessments suggest that PS5 Pro supply is unlikely to increase significantly before around March 2027, making it less likely that the console will remain available at its official retail price leading up to the release of Grand Theft Auto VI.
Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for release on November 19. There will be no PC version at launch, but it will support PS5 Pro Enhanced. The title may further drive up demand for the PS5 Pro; on August 27, the day gameplay footage was revealed, PS5 pre-orders surged by 606% compared to the daily average over the previous 30 days.
Sony has secured the memory required for PS5 units planned for sale in fiscal year 2026. Since the PS5 Pro uses 2GB more memory than the standard model, increasing production of this variant requires additional procurement of higher-priced memory. PS5 shipments from April to June dropped by 36% year-over-year, while operating profit in the game business grew by 37% during the same period. Based on this, analysts suggest that Sony may be prioritizing production of the standard PS5, which allows for higher output given the same memory allocation.
However, the current development build of Grand Theft Auto VI runs at 30 frames per second on consoles like the PS5 Pro. Whether it will support 60 fps and what specific enhancements "PS5 Pro Enhanced" includes have not yet been announced.
