Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Could Reach 200GB! Physical Edition Still Requires Data Download

The install size for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth may reach approximately 200GB at launch, making it the largest title in the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy. Game Director Naoki Hamaguchi also confirmed that the console physical edition will still require downloading additional data to play.

In an interview during Tokyo Game Show 2026, Naoki Hamaguchi stated that the final install size might reach approximately 200GB, though the figure is not yet fully confirmed. For comparison, the Steam version of Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade requires 94GB of space, while the install size for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is 159GB.

The game will be released on a single disc for PS5 and Xbox Series X platforms, but the disc cannot hold all the data. The maximum capacity for a PS5 game disc is 100GB, while the Xbox Series X disc limit is 50GB; if all content were included on physical media, the Xbox Series X version would require at least four discs, and the PS5 version would need two.

Naoki Hamaguchi previously stated that Square Enix chose the single-disc approach to avoid the limitations on game capacity and increased manufacturing costs associated with multiple Blu-ray discs. He mentioned that the team needed to overcome hardware limitations to some extent. The PS5 physical edition of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was released on two discs.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is an open-world role-playing game and the final chapter of the Remake trilogy. Locations such as Midgar and Wutai will be available for players to explore. The game is scheduled for global release on April 8 and is currently available for pre-order.

Two separate expansion contents are also planned, focusing on the stories of Sephiroth and Vincent, respectively. Naoki Hamaguchi did not reveal their exact positions in the trilogy's timeline but indicated that their format could be similar to the interlude episode centered around Yuffie in Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade.
