ASUS showcased two ROG gaming OLED monitors at Tokyo Game Show 2026. Among them, the ROG Swift OLED PG259QWS Ace, with a refresh rate reaching 720Hz, has been selected as the official monitor for the Counter-Strike 2 international tournament, PGL Singapore Major 2026.
Another product unveiled this time is the ROG Strix OLED XG259QWPG Ace, with a maximum refresh rate of 540Hz. Both monitors utilize a 24.5-inch, 1920×1080 resolution LG Display tandem WOLED panel, with a gray-to-gray response time of 0.02ms.
For a long time, professional FPS and MOBA tournaments have primarily used 24-inch TN panel monitors. While these products do not excel in color, brightness, and contrast, they are widely adopted in esports due to their high refresh rates and fast gray-to-gray response times. OLED panels also offer high-speed response characteristics, and ASUS has positioned the PG259QWS as a product aimed at the professional competitive scene.
The PG259QWS boasts a maximum refresh rate of 720Hz, supports AMD FreeSync Premium, and is NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible certified. It features an HDR peak brightness of 1700 nits, covers 99.5% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, and includes a TrueBlack Glossy coating on the panel surface to reduce ambient light reflections.
This monitor also features a built-in position sensor that displays tilt angle, height, and the distance between the screen and the user's face in the OSD menu. Users can save a set of reference values and compare them with current readings, allowing players to replicate their usual screen positioning at tournament venues. Left and right rotation angles need to be confirmed using the scale on the stand.
The XG259QWPG does not include a position sensor, and its maximum refresh rate is reduced to 540Hz; however, its screen size, resolution, panel type, and gray-to-gray response time remain identical to those of the PG259QWS. ASUS stated that it will not simply categorize products into tiers based on OLED versus LCD technology, and will continue to launch both types of monitors in the future according to user demand.
Gavin Tsai, Head of ROG Gaming Monitors at ASUS, stated that even professional players may struggle to perceive the difference when the refresh rate increases from 720Hz to 1000Hz. Therefore, future product improvements will not solely focus on refresh rates; position sensors and quick menus that reduce setup time are also development directions determined by the team based on feedback from professional players.
