Palworld Developer Has Hundreds of Discarded Designs! Sekhmet's Production Is Moving the Fastest

Palworld developer Pocketpair holds hundreds of unused Pal design concepts internally. Among the Pals currently in production, Sekhmet progressed from concept design to modeling and rigging the fastest.

John "Bucky" Buckley, Head of Publishing and Distribution at Pocketpair, introduced the Pal design process during Gamescom 2026. The team has several 2D concept artists who continuously sketch Pal drafts and submit them for internal company evaluation.

These concept artworks are posted in a dedicated Slack channel, where company members rate them on a scale of one to five stars. Selected designs then undergo further stages such as 3D design and model creation, but translating 2D images into 3D forms isn't always feasible, and some concepts are even abandoned after modeling is complete.

Buckley stated that Pocketpair maintains an internal "graveyard" containing "hundreds" of rougher Pal concepts. Elements from rejected designs don't disappear entirely; the team sometimes selects satisfactory parts from different concepts and combines them to create new Pals.

Not all designs require a lengthy selection process. Buckley mentioned that Sekhmet was likely the Pal that moved most quickly from concept and design to modeling and rigging, with its proposal generating a very rapid response in the internal Slack channel.
