Recently at the Tokyo Game Show, Hideo Kojima revealed the latest progress on his new horror experiment, OD. Development is proceeding smoothly, with the team actively advancing the project.
Hideo Kojima confirmed that the project has overcome the stagnation caused by the SAG-AFTRA strike in the United States, with motion capture and audio recording fully resumed and overall development progressing steadily according to plan. Previously, performance capture and ADR (Automated Dialogue Replacement) recording were forced to pause due to the SAG-AFTRA strike, causing a temporary halt in actor-related production tasks. With the strike ended, related work fully resumed in 2026, bringing the project back on its original development schedule. The project was not affected by Xbox layoffs or project review controversies and faces no risk of cancellation.
Hideo Kojima highly praised the performances of two core actors, Sophia Lillis and Hunter Schafer, noting that they and the entire team delivered intense and outstanding performances. He is very much looking forward to players seeing the final product.
Hideo Kojima reaffirmed that OD is a brand-new genre title designed to test human fear thresholds, rather than a traditional horror game. It will leverage Xbox cloud technology to create a new form of entertainment media, gradually taking shape through continuous experimentation and iteration. The concept for the project was born during the development of Death Stranding. The goal is to explore new limits of fear and pursue an极致Terror atmosphere. Special mechanisms have also been designed to allow players who cannot handle the intense horror to still complete the game, though specific details of these mechanics have not yet been disclosed.
