A Sledgehammer Destroys Everythinggj: Psychological Therapy Game 'Virtue & The Hammer' Releases on October 27

At the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, Virtue and a Sledgehammer announced its release date trailer, with the game set to launch on October 27, 2026. Players will return to their hometown, wielding a sledgehammer to demolish buildings and shatter the androids that have digitized their former neighbors.

“Machines never hate themselves enough to become better.” This incredible metal quote is what we saw in the latest trailer for Virtue and a Sledgehammer, which was revealed alongside the game's release date (October 27) at the PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct.

The official showcase at the June event featured some sledgehammer-swinging action, so we already knew this would be a strange exploration of the human psyche, as well as a game about smashing robots to pieces. I love destructible environments, and the destruction shown here strongly evokes the atmosphere of Red Faction: Guerrilla. More importantly, these new phrases also reveal developer Sergi Haba and Deconstructeam's view on self-improvement: it is driven by hatred rather than love.

In hindsight, this becomes obvious when you consider the premise of Virtue and a Sledgehammer. You return to your hometown, leveling it brick by brick, while simultaneously crushing the robots that have digitized your former neighbors. However, there is also a certain therapeutic meaning within it.

In our previously released trailer, we saw flashbacks of the protagonist's past life: visiting graves, hanging out with friends in the woods, and strangling a woman in the forest. Combined with the increasingly bizarre, psychotherapy-themed questions in the trailer, it's clear that there is much to explore in this promotional video.

I love video games with deep narratives and delicate emotions. I also enjoy games that let you fully indulge in the fun, whether through pure destruction or various creative interactive systems.

Virtue and a Sledgehammer delivers on both fronts. Can't wait for October 27th!

About This Game

In this narrative exploration game, you can return to your hometown and personally destroy Everythinggj with a sledgehammer. Face your past and experience the feeling of "no longer belonging to the place where you grew up" in a heartbreaking story.

Many people pin their hopes on psychotherapy, but you chose a more vigorous approach—a sledgehammer.

In Virtue and a Sledgehammer, players need to explore the ruins of their childhood hometown, which is now overrun by ghostly robots representing the digitized neighbors. The path ahead won't always be clear, so you'll need to demolish any buildings blocking your way to forge your own path.

This journey is destined to be painful, not only because this mountain town is long deserted, with only robots roaming the hills constantly harassing you, but also because of the old memories you will unearth while dismantling the last remnants of your childhood—memories that are sometimes warm, but sometimes force you to relive nightmares.

This is a game about family, tradition, and not fitting in.
