At the 2026 PC Gaming Show Tokyo Direct, the tactical roguelike game "Wane" was unveiled for the first time, with a demo planned for release in 2027. Players will delve into the fading memories of archaeologist Declan Wayne, embarking on an adventure within his psyche.
The debut trailer opens with Wayne's monologue: "I once believed that memory shaped a person. Now I know it can also destroy one." The exploration area, Lavelle, is a reflection of his inner world, with different ecological zones corresponding to different parts of his psyche, where the party will confront his inner demons.
Players can select three adventurers from a roster of six to form their party. The trailer showcases the attack styles of two characters: one forms a gun shape with their hand to shoot enemies across the room, while another female character wields a hammer larger than herself, vaulting over railings to deliver a crushing blow, emphasized by impact frames.
The game features a roguelite loop of repeated exploration. Between runs, players return to Wayne's shop to sell items and prepare for the next delve into his memories.
"Wane" is developed by Metis Creative, a tabletop game publisher now venturing into video games. The game is now available to wishlist on Steam, with the official release date yet to be announced.
Steam Description:
"Wane" is a character-driven tactical Roguelite. You will lead a group of occultists into Lavelle, a dungeon reawakened by your past. Keep your party from falling apart, survive high-stakes turn-based battles, and secure funding for the next expedition. Can you excise the rot at the heart of Lavelle before your memories fade completely?
About This Game
You are Declan Wayne. Many years ago, you were the archaeologist who unearthed Lavelle and its three extinct civilizations. It was meant to be your legacy.
Yet, driven by mortal curiosity and hubris, you broke the seal on something that should never have been touched. Your mind was shattered, and you fled. For years, you sought a cure to no avail—except to return to the origin of your failure.
Now, you have returned. Assemble an expedition of occultists and mercenaries, diving deeper and deeper, carving a bloody path to the core of Lavelle to reclaim your sanity before what remains of your self fades away.
Assemble Your Expedition
Recruit an assassin with a demon residing in his vocal cords, a disgraced fighter pilot turned mech warrior, a nearly immortal magician who loves to toy with Death during weekly poker nights, and many more colorful characters.
These distinct personalities are the ones delving into Lavelle for you. Beware, as they are prone to bleeding out, breaking down, or even dying.
Every Room Is a War of Attrition
With each dive, your expedition will face horrors reshaped by your past in high-stakes turn-based combat.
Combine your team members with trinkets found along the way to create various builds and synergies, utilize the environment, and pray the dice are in your favor.
Injuries accumulate, supplies dwindle, and luck eventually runs out.
Escape Lavelle with your loot and your life, preparing for the next dive. Don't worry, the monsters will be waiting for your return.
Go Deeper With Every Run
The goal of every run remains the same: reach the core of Lavelle, excise the rot, and find the cure to heal your mind.
But this is a marathon, not a sprint. Between runs, Lavelle will resurrect the horrors you've slain and reshuffle her rooms.
However, not Everythinggj resets. Unlock safe houses, open shortcuts, and learn which enemies are worth fighting and which should be quietly bypassed. Somewhere in her halls, you will also find like-minded old acquaintances who will help you go deeper than before.
Keep the Expedition Together
Everyone in the expedition has come to Lavelle for their own reasons, beyond the paycheck you "generously" issue after each dive.
Uncover their true motives. Solve their problems or exploit them. Crush internal strife before it slows you down. Choose your alliances carefully: every decision you make will earn the loyalty of some occultist companions while inciting the wrath of others.
Fund the Next Dive
You spent a lifetime amassing a fortune, only to blow it all restarting Lavelle. Now, the expedition base needs supplies, mercenaries are waiting for their pay, and someone has to cover the medical bills. Fortunately, you are a genuine top-tier antiquarian, and Lavelle happens to be a treasure trove of relics and trinkets.
Each dive brings back artifacts: keep them to unravel the historical mysteries of Lavelle, or sell them to the highest bidder to fund the next dive.
