Suspected scalper listings for Steam Frame reservation eligibility have appeared on eBay, with the 256GB bundle starting at around $1,700, prompting reports from players. These listings emerged within hours of Valve sending out the first batch of reservation emails, offering purchase eligibility rather than the headset itself.
The official price for the 256GB bundle is $1,059, while the 1TB bundle is $1,299, with the latter listed on eBay for around $2,000. IGN reports that at least some units have been sold, but Mixed points out that these figures represent sellers' asking prices, and there are no confirmed sales records yet.
Valve's Limited Drop Program terms state that purchase links are tied to eligible Steam accounts and the right to purchase cannot be transferred. Currently, Steam Frames have not yet shipped to buyers in the US, Canada, UK, EU, or Australia, meaning these listings are effectively reselling queue positions for purchase eligibility. eBay's policy requires that item listings must involve tangible physical goods.
Users in Reddit's r/Steam community have shared methods for reporting these listings. One user stated they received numerous emails confirming eBay had removed the listings. Other players found sellers' Steam usernames from the resale pages and submitted reports to Valve.
Valve previously used a similar random selection mechanism for Steam Machines, which still appeared on eBay. As of the original article's publication, it remains unclear whether Valve has taken action on these reports; since sales launched on September 14, Valve has not publicly commented on the issue of scalper resales.
