Free GTA VI T-shirts distributed at the 2026 Tokyo Game Show have already appeared on the secondary market, with resale prices exceeding $200. A seller based in Osaka has sold two shirts on eBay for $219.99 each, including shipping and import fees.
These T-shirts were given away as viewing gifts at the PlayStation booth. Attendees could claim one after watching the extended Netflix demo of GTA VI, which featured haptic feedback and surround sound. Another promotional item was a special "VI" sticker, part of a three-sticker PlayStation set.
Even before the public days of the show began, business attendees had already listed these T-shirts on the Japanese second-hand platform Mercari for over 12,000 yen (approximately 512 RMB). Resale prices continued to rise, with both active listings and high-priced sales recorded on eBay.
On-site videos show large crowds gathering at the entrance to the GTA VI booth, attempting to get in. Reports indicate that the booth stopped admitting visitors after only about 10 minutes of being open, as it reached capacity.
Other booths also faced overcrowding issues. Red Bull temporarily halted the distribution of its glowing metal cups due to safety concerns caused by excessive crowding, resuming later in the day.
This is not the first time event giveaways have been resold; Metal Gear T-shirts have been flipped in previous years. At this year's show, promotional cards for Palworld and the Final Fantasy Trading Card Game, as well as the latest doujinshi from Game Freak, have also appeared in resale listings.
