TAITO has announced that Lufia I & II will be released in 2027 with Chinese language support. The game will launch on PC (Steam), PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2, and the Steam store page is now live.
This collection includes Lufia I and Lufia II. The first game follows the protagonist, a descendant of the hero Maxim, and their companions as they battle the Four Fiends. The second game is a prequel, depicting Maxim's journey through encounters, partings, and battles as he gradually becomes the "savior of the land."
The collection retains the original pixel art style while adding several quality-of-life features. The dialogue in both games has also been reviewed and revised.
Series planner Masahide Miyada stated that the original SNES game used a large amount of hiragana in its story text due to storage limitations, but this has now been fully updated to use kanji. He thanked players for continuing to support these titles, which were released over a quarter-century ago, and admitted that rereading some lines made him reflect, "I was so young back then," with the revision process bringing back many memories from development.
Looking back, the Clear River Games production team noted that when the first game was released in Europe, there were relatively few Japanese RPGs localized into local languages. The team believes that the visuals, soundtrack, emotional story moments, and the opening sequence that begins with a tragic ending are all key charms of this title.
Lufia II introduces monster raising and Roguelike dungeons, while removing random encounters to blend action and puzzle elements into dungeon exploration. This prequel will be included alongside the original game in this collection.
