"Brás Cubas's Posthumous Commission," an indie adventure game developed by Mother Gaia Studio, is now available on Android via the Google Play Store. Players find themselves trapped in a repeating day, tasked with investigating the cause of their client Brás Cubas's death.
Set in 1937 Rio de Janeiro, the game adopts a film noir style. Although Brás Cubas is dead, he traps the player—hired to solve the case—in a time loop until the mystery is resolved. Death is the client, and time becomes the primary tool for uncovering the truth.
During the investigation, players can interact with and interrogate various characters, explore different parts of the city, and gather clues and key testimonies. The day after Brás's death, those around him begin acting strangely. Players must secretly tail them and use the information they uncover as leverage during interrogations.
Each loop offers a chance to re-explore and intervene in events. Players can use this opportunity to uncover previously hidden secrets, understand the motives of different characters, and alter their fates, gradually piecing together the full picture of the case.
This title reimagines Brazilian writer Machado de Assis's novel "The Posthumous Memoirs of Brás Cubas," carrying forward the original work's satire, humor, and social critique in a new narrative.
The Android version allows players to experience the prologue for free. After completing the demo, players can unlock the full story with a single in-app purchase and continue investigating the truth behind Brás Cubas's death.
