Mechjestic, developed by Skinny Bandit, made its debut at Tokyo Game Show 2026 with an on-site demo. It is a steampunk-themed roguelite featuring mech customization and deck-building, incorporating non-card-based attacks and a discard-to-refuel mechanic into its combat system.
Once the demo starts, players must choose one of three characters, each with a unique starting deck. The development team plans to eventually expand the roster to 22 playable characters. The core gameplay loop is similar to titles like Slay the Spire: players receive a certain amount of fuel each turn and spend it to play cards that attack enemies.
In addition to cards, Mechjestic offers two other actions: "Attack" and "Ability." Abilities can be used once per battle, with the initial effect of reducing enemy defense by 3 points. Attacks can be used once per turn, dealing damage directly based on the mech's current attack power. Players can also spend money to perform additional attacks.
Players can also spend fuel to upgrade their current mech, increasing both the total fuel accumulated per turn and the number of cards drawn. This action sacrifices some actions in the current turn in exchange for more abundant resources in subsequent turns.
The "Recharge" system allows players to discard their hand to instantly gain fuel. When drawing multiple high-cost cards, players can discard some of them to continue planning other actions for the turn, avoiding situations where they are completely unable to act due to lack of fuel.
The game also allows players to adjust their deck at any time. Acquired cards can be freely added or removed without needing to visit specific locations like shops. This enables players to control deck size and reduce the accumulation of useless cards in the later stages of a run.
The mech's appearance changes dynamically through battles and modifications, featuring dramatic animations during attacks. When equipment cards that boost stats are played, the corresponding parts are visually installed on the mech. The current version still has several technical issues, but a demo is now available on Steam.
