Crafting a Wolf Fur Cape requires at least a level 2 workbench, along with 6 Wolf Pelts, 4 Silver Ingots, and 1 Wolf Trophy. Gathering these resources still requires entering the Mountains, so it's advisable to prepare Frost Resistance Mead beforehand to prevent continuous health loss from the cold during your first expedition.
Wolf Pelts can be obtained by killing wolves in the Mountains, though wolves attack quickly and may appear in packs. Players can also try luring them out of the Mountain biome to reduce consumption of Frost Resistance Mead during gathering. The drop rate for Wolf Trophies is around 10%, so multiple hunts may be necessary.
Silver Ingots are produced by smelting Silver Ore in a Smelter. Silver Ore is usually buried underground in the Mountains, and Wishbones obtained from defeating Bonemass can help players locate ore veins. Mining requires an Iron Pickaxe. Silver Ore rarely appears in the Mountains of the starting island, so pay attention to your location when searching for resources.
Without a Wishbone, players can theoretically search for ore veins that occasionally surface or use the Stagbreaker to strike the ground in high-altitude areas for detection. If the message "Too hard" appears after attacking, there may be silver ore underground, but this method is unreliable.
The frost resistance effect of the Wolf Fur Cape does not change with equipment level. It eliminates the effects of nighttime cold and the severe cold of the Mountains and Plains, preventing continuous health loss or reduced stamina regeneration, while also halving incoming frost damage.
Upgrading the cape increases its durability and armor value, with level 3 and 4 capes requiring a level 4 workbench. Each upgrade adds only 1 point of armor, and since other frost-resistant capes can be obtained in later biomes, players may choose to craft only the basic Wolf Fur Cape and save silver for weapons; obtaining the frost resistance effect does not require a full set of wolf armor.
