Since its launch, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has received 16 pieces of free DLC, with a third major story expansion still in development. Polish studio CD Projekt Red recently reviewed the long-term update history of this open-world action RPG.
This free content includes alternate appearances for main characters, new Witcher armor sets, additional combat finishers, New Game+ mode, and five complete questlines. In addition to the free content, the game has also released two major story expansions: Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
The game subsequently received a next-gen update for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The update added new quests and gear based on The Witcher TV series, along with various interface improvements and ray tracing effects. The REDkit modding tools also allow players to create content using the game engine's tools.
In terms of technical updates, the development team also added new image upscaling technology to support newer graphics cards. The third major story expansion currently in development will continue to expand the game's narrative content.
Furthermore, a full remake of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is scheduled for release soon. This version will feature graphical optimizations, remastered high-resolution textures, improved item interaction physics, and more modern visual effects.
