After a year in Early Access and six major updates, this roguelike already featured 12 survivors, 5 final bosses, and 113 weapons and items. Version 1.0 adds the community's most-wanted feature: local co-op. Developed by Pixelsplit and published by Sidekick Publishing, the game has now left Early Access on Steam.
When "Bullet Heaven" Meets Backpack Strategy
Players unlock and choose one of 12 survivors, carving a path through zombie-infested suburbs while scavenging fuel to keep the bus running day after day. Weapons fire automatically, so players focus on dodging, dashing, and looting. The real strategic decisions happen within the backpack.
Every item's position matters. Items mark adjacent slots, chaining effects together, and smart layout can turn a basic loadout into an unstoppable build that tears through hordes. The game includes 32 weapons and 81 items—14 weapons and 3 items are obtainable only through crafting—ensuring every trip's backpack configuration is unique. This diversity keeps players coming back. Unlocking all survivors, defeating the 5 final bosses, and chasing the next game-changing build is often endless.
Shared Backpacks, Shared Synergies!
Co-op mode was the most requested feature during Early Access. In version 1.0, two players can fight side-by-side via local co-op on the same couch. Each player has their own backpack, but synergies work across both: items can mark equipment in your partner's inventory, meaning the most powerful builds require joint planning. On Steam, friends can also join online via Remote Play Together—no need to own the game. With Steam Cloud, progress syncs between PC and Steam Deck, letting you start at your desk and continue on the couch.
More content, same price—packed with value!
The brand-new Vampire Survivor and final boss Laz have arrived, along with 10 new weapons, 16 items, and multiple new maps ranging from snowy ski resorts to suburban golf courses, comprehensively upgrading the combat experience. The home base has been revamped with a coffee stand for speed buffs, plus a new opening cinematic, over 30 achievements, new memos, new music, and a redesigned tutorial. Additionally, the game features hundreds of balance adjustments, performance optimizations, and bug fixes, with Early Access saves fully compatible. New characters, bosses, gear, maps, and content keep coming—this 1.0 update is packed!
A fun closing anecdote from Bennet Jeutter, co-founder of Pixelsplit:
"There's a German saying: 'Alles hat ein Ende, nur die Wurst hat zwei' (Everythinggj has an end, only the sausage has two)," says Bennet, Pixelsplit's Chief Sausage/Banana/Pixel Officer. "For years we believed it. But while designing banana peels, we spent an entire meeting debating which end was up, only to face the truth: bananas have two ends too... So for version 1.0, we're officially updating the proverb: Everythinggj has an end, even Early Access. Only bananas have two."
