Bidi Blas is currently the hottest new Star Wars character online, but an official LEGO merchandise release is unlikely in the near future. So, a developer who worked on Star Wars: Squadrons and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor decided to take matters into his own hands. I can only say: beautifully done.
You've probably heard by now that Bidi Blas from Star Wars: Galactic Racing is both noisy and endearing, becoming a social media darling with his non-stop Huttese chatter. This newly popular hidden gem of a supporting character is gaining more and more popularity, with hype extending far beyond the game itself. Jordan DeVries, UI/UX Director at Respawn Entertainment, decided to take matters into his own hands and turn this character into a LEGO minifigure. The result is stunning and definitely worth your attention—or as Blas himself would say: "Write it down."
DeVries wrote on Twitter: "Using a LEGO Jurassic Park set, I recreated the most famous mama's boy from Galactic Racing—Bidi Blas." All you need is the LEGO Jurassic World "Spinosaurus Escape" set and the free tutorial DeVries posted on Rebrickable to build your own Blas.
You don't even need the entire box of parts; this modification requires less than half the pieces, making it cheaper than buying individual parts separately. Once assembled, this little guy stands about 17 cm (6.7 inches) tall. Check it out:
DeVries worked on Star Wars: Squadrons and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. He admits that this design isn't a 100% accurate reproduction and lacks the character's racing medals. But I think he's being too modest—the final product is highly recognizable. It's unlikely that an official LEGO version of such a large-scale Bidi Blas will be released anytime soon, so if you want one on your shelf, this custom build is your best bet.
This isn't DeVries' first time creating custom LEGO sets. He's a seasoned original LEGO MOC designer, skilled at transforming existing LEGO sets into completely different creations. Previously, he used parts from the Ninjago series to create figures like Loki from The Rescue Plan and a Monaco-style F1 track. Now that he's released the Bidi Blas LEGO design, I'm already looking forward to his next project.
