Two gaming industry insiders have denied claims that the media review copy of GTA 6 features dynamic name watermarks. While these statements are not official clarifications, both individuals independently verified that the previous rumors were false.
Previously, industry insider ManaByte claimed that the versions sent by Rockstar Games to reviewers and media would continuously display the reviewer's full name. The names would reportedly move or flash in different positions on the screen to help identify the source in case of premature leaks via screenshots or videos.
NateTheHate stated that his inquiries revealed no such watermarks in either the evaluation or review copies. Insider Gaming journalist Tom Henderson reached the same conclusion after independent verification, calling the watermark story false. However, Henderson also noted that Rockstar Games has indeed implemented very strict security protocols for this title, though the specific mechanisms remain unclear.
Additionally, unofficial sources report that Rockstar Games has begun distributing review copies to select media outlets, with the review embargo potentially lifting on November 18, 2026, the day before the global launch. Currently, Rockstar Games has not confirmed the security measures, distribution progress, or embargo lift date for the media version.
