Hideo Kojima's Physint Influenced by Metal Gear, New Mech Resembles T-Rex Twin

Recently, a batch of new concept art for Physint was revealed at a Kojima Productions exhibition, featuring a mecha strikingly similar to the classic Metal Gear REX.

Physint is one of the titles currently in development by Hideo Kojima and holds special significance for his fans, as it is positioned as the spiritual successor to the Metal Gear series. The project was initially canceled by Sony but was later picked up for publishing by Xbox Game Studios. It was recently officially announced that Bill Skarsgård, star of John Wick: Chapter 4, will play the protagonist.

Kojima Productions' 10th-anniversary special exhibition, "Beyond Connections: An Odyssey of Creation and Endeavor," is currently being held at the Azabudai Hills Gallery in Minato, Tokyo. The studio showcased various artifacts from its decade-long journey, including art settings and physical models, while also unveiling two upcoming titles from Hideo Kojima: the horror game OD and Physint.

Among the exhibits was a set of statues displaying busts of several Skarsgård characters. This might hint that the game will adopt a clone-based setting similar to Metal Gear, but it is more likely that these are simply character design concepts for this new stealth-action title. The influence of the Metal Gear series on this game is even more evident in the exhibits nearby.

Also on display was a mecha statue nearly identical to REX, the iconic mecha from the original Metal Gear Solid, though its surface appeared to be covered in a viscous substance or fitted with an external frame. Nearby was another mecha design resembling the Moon from Metal Gear Solid 4, but reimagined as a giant tripod structure with an additional tail. All signs suggest that, as the spiritual successor to Metal Gear, Physint will likely retain the series' signature Metal Gear mecha elements.

Of course, there is another possibility: perhaps the curators deliberately placed unrelated mecha designs in the Skarsgård exhibit to create a contrast. Theoretically, this mecha could also be a discarded concept for the Magellan DHV from Death Stranding 2, as its design was clearly inspired by REX as well.
