So far, 2026 has been a memorable year for the Resident Evil series. Resident Evil 9: Requiem, the ninth mainline entry in the franchise, has proven to be a major commercial success for Capcom. Since its launch, the game has sold over 7 million copies and has become one of the highest-grossing titles on Steam in 2026.
This IP has made a substantial contribution to Capcom's impressive profitability. Thanks to Resident Evil 9: Requiem, Capcom has achieved profitability for nine consecutive years. Previous entries in the series also saw strong sales performance in 2026.
According to Alinea Analytics, the five most recent releases in the Resident Evil series generated a combined total of $850 million in revenue across Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox platforms this year. Resident Evil 9: Requiem was the primary contributor, with its Steam version alone earning $211.3 million in 2026.
That said, the lineup of older titles also contributed a significant share. The remakes of Resident Evil 2, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 generated nearly $100 million in revenue on Steam. The previous mainline entry, Resident Evil Village, also performed strongly on the platform this year, bringing in $21.3 million.
The newly released Resident Evil film received positive reviews from both critics and fans, serving as another driver for increased game sales. The movie's box office success and sustained popularity have attracted a large number of new consumers to the franchise, many of whom appear to have stuck around.
However, for a massive IP like Resident Evil, these numbers are hardly surprising. The series has sold over 200 million copies worldwide and accounts for 60% of its publisher's total PC sales. In addition to the new DLC for Resident Evil 9: Requiem, a remake of Resident Evil: Code Veronica is also scheduled for release next year. Clearly, this IP shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
