Gameplay footage from the unannounced Persona 1 remake has allegedly leaked online, with the video titled "Persona: Be Your True Mind."
This video, lasting just under two minutes and bearing a striking resemblance to a modern remake of Sega and Atlus's original Persona game, was first posted on Reddit today before quickly spreading across various social media platforms.
The developer of this RPG series has mentioned the possibility of remaking earlier titles multiple times in the past but has never officially confirmed that such work is underway, meaning this video could very well be our first look at the next remake in the series.
In addition to the music, sound effects, and art style being highly consistent with the studio's recent works, the length and detail of this video far exceed typical leaks. However, for many players, the most compelling evidence lies in the character animations.
Particular attention has been drawn to Eriko, as her summoning animation appears identical to Yukiko's in Persona 4 Reload. Of course, Atlus's Persona 4 Reload is not scheduled for release until February 18, 2027. Additionally, there is the issue of Tatsuya, the protagonist of Persona 2, who seems to be using an unfinished character model.
So, is this video real or fake? Unfortunately, we cannot make many judgments until Sega or Atlus officially confirms it. Of course, this does not rule out the possibility of a carefully crafted hoax, with some of the strange details potentially serving as evidence. On the other hand, it could also be because the so-called Persona 1 remake is still in development, resulting in the use of placeholder assets and familiar animations.
We cannot determine when this video was filmed, even if it ultimately proves to be genuine. This means it could have been shot yesterday or several years ago, leading some to speculate that what we are seeing today is merely a proof-of-concept video or a promotional trailer.
IGN has contacted Sega for comment.
