Resident Evil Theatrical Screenings Reduced, Global Box Office Reaches $385 Million

The Resident Evil reboot film has entered its seventh week of release and is still screening in 1,943 theaters, a decrease of 1,741 from the 3,684 theaters during its September opening. The film's cumulative global box office is reportedly $385 million.

Directed by Zach Cregger and starring Austin Abrams, the film saw its screening scale shrink by about 200 theaters from the sixth to the seventh week. Therefore, the reduction of approximately 1,700 theaters is compared to the initial release scale, not the number withdrawn in a single week.

The film's production budget was $75 million. For comparison, Zach Cregger's 2022 film Barbarian had a budget of under $5 million and a global box office close to $50 million; the 2025 film Weapons had a budget of $38 million and a global box office of approximately $270 million.

According to currently disclosed data, the revenue scale of the Resident Evil film has already surpassed the two aforementioned works. As theater coverage continues to shrink, it may become more difficult for the film to achieve higher global box office records in the future.
