Fortnite Pirate Tokens Reportedly Allow Free Item Shop Cosmetics, Peak Concurrent Players Exceed 5 Million

Fortnite is currently running its pirate-themed season, featuring a One Piece collaboration. The recently discovered "Pirate Shop" mechanic has drawn attention, with reports indicating that lucky players who obtain special tokens can claim item shop cosmetics for free within 14 days.

These tokens must be obtained from treasure chests marked with a skull and crossbones symbol. Once activated, players can add in-game shop cosmetics within the eligible range to their account; if the player is in a squad, teammates will also receive corresponding rewards. Each recipient reportedly receives two tokens—one for use this year and another reserved for next year.

There are certain restrictions on the free claims: the related cosmetics cannot be gifted to friends, and the tokens cannot be used to purchase Battle Pass levels. Other than that, all cosmetics in the Item Shop are included in what is currently referred to as the eligible range. Token acquisition relies on loot boxes and luck, with no official drop rates or distribution scales announced at present.

Following the spread of information about the Pirate Shop across the community, Fortnite's peak concurrent player count across all platforms exceeded 5 million. Of these, approximately 2.1 million were in Battle Royale mode, around 615,000 were in UGC and Creative maps, and roughly 2 million were in the lobby or logging in and out of the game.
