Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy: Encore Edition, previously rumored, has now been officially announced. The game will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5. Developed by Eidos-Montréal in collaboration with Marvel Games, this title is an optimized version of the 2021 original for Switch 2, priced at $39.99, with a 10% discount available during the pre-order period.
The Encore Edition includes the full base game and all previously released digital content, while adding several exclusive features for Switch 2. Each of the five Guardians receives a unique outfit inspired by 1980s glam rock, available only in the Encore Edition. In terms of controls, the game supports the Switch 2's built-in mouse functionality for menus and aiming, while gyroscopic motion controls are used to pilot the Milano through space or maneuver Peter during sliding and zero-gravity sections. Performance-wise, TV mode offers two settings: Quality Mode runs at 1440p resolution targeting 30 FPS, and Performance Mode runs at 1080p targeting 40 FPS; Handheld Mode targets 30 FPS.
The original Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy was released in October 2021 and won the Best Narrative award at The Game Awards 2021, but due to sales falling short of expectations, news of a sequel has been scarce. Its arrival on Switch 2 as an Encore Edition is seen by some players as an opportunity for the series to regain attention. The physical version will be released on a Game Key Card, while the digital version will be available simultaneously on the Switch 2 eShop.
