Marvel Studios' official Japanese Twitter account announced that Toshiyuki Morikawa will voice Doctor Doom in the Japanese dub of Avengers: Doomsday. The character is played by Robert Downey Jr. and serves as the film's main antagonist.
The casting was announced by Robert Downey Jr. himself. He offered words of encouragement to Toshiyuki Morikawa and mentioned the late voice actor Keiji Fujiwara.
Robert Downey Jr. previously portrayed Tony Stark/Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for many years, with Keiji Fujiwara providing his Japanese voice. As Downey returns as Doctor Doom, the choice of his Japanese voice actor has drawn attention from Japanese audiences.
Toshiyuki Morikawa succeeded Keiji Fujiwara in roles such as those in Crayon Shin-chan and Gintama, and he voiced Tony Stark in the Marvel Studios animated series What If...?. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release in Japanese theaters on Friday, December 18.
He previously voiced Yoshikage Kira in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Diamond Is Unbreakable
