Johnny Depp has stated that he is willing to reprise his role as Jack Sparrow in a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie. However, this statement currently only reflects a change in his personal willingness and does not mean that his return is confirmed.
In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Depp was asked if he had any interest in playing Jack Sparrow again. He expressed his desire to bring the series to a better conclusion, clearly referring to the poor critical reception of the previous film.
"If Everythinggj goes smoothly enough for them to bring the Pirates of the Caribbean series to a perfect conclusion, the only thing I want to be part of is ensuring the series ends on a high note. I would be willing to work with Jerry Bruckheimer tomorrow; I trust him completely. We share a deep friendship."
During his legal dispute with Amber Heard, Depp previously stated that he would not collaborate with Disney on a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, even if offered $300 million and a llama worth a million dollars. However, it now appears that his stance on the matter has softened, reportedly for some time. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer has stated multiple times in recent years that he has been in negotiations with Depp regarding a new Pirates of the Caribbean film, although nothing has been finalized yet. Nevertheless, the script is already in development, and the producer hopes to reach an agreement with Depp.
This marks the first time since 2023 that Depp has publicly expressed openness to the idea, after previously stating he would not consider filming another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. Disney had also considered producing a new Pirates of the Caribbean film starring Margot Robbie, but no substantial progress has been made to date. Since his legal dispute with Amber Heard, Depp has rarely appeared in major commercial blockbusters. Notably, he was forced to withdraw from the Fantastic Beasts series after suing the British newspaper The Sun for libel. In the third and final installment of that series, his role was taken over by Mads Mikkelsen.
Depp will appear in the new adaptation of A Christmas Carol titled Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, which is scheduled for release on November 13. Whether Jack Sparrow will set sail again remains to be seen, but he seems more enthusiastic about the idea than before.
