Netflix's live-action Gears of War film now has a script draft, and the project is still in development. Director David Leitch confirmed this progress but did not announce a filming start date, casting results, or a clear timetable for entering the next production phase.
Leitch stated that the production team is excited about the potential of expanding the Gears of War series into a cinematic universe. However, he noted that only this much information can be revealed at this stage. The existence of a script draft indicates阶段性 progress in development, but it does not mean the script is finalized, nor does it equate to greenlighting the project or imminent start of production.
Netflix acquired the adaptation rights to Gears of War in 2022, with initial plans including a live-action film and an animated series. The screenplay for the film was handed over to Dune screenwriter Jon Spaihts in 2023, and David Leitch joined the project as director in 2025.
Xbox executives had previously stated that the film plan involves the formation of Delta Squad and the brotherhood built among its members as they fight together against the Locust Horde. However, current information is insufficient to confirm whether the current script fully follows this direction, and the filming start date and casting timeline remain undetermined.
