Kojima Productions conducted field research in Slovakia and the Czech Republic, performing detailed 3D scans in Slovakia. This work may be related to the early environmental development of the horror game OD, providing real-world architecture, landscapes, or other visual assets for the project.
Relevant clues come from the development timeline exhibited at Kojima Productions' 10th-anniversary exhibition, "BEYOND THE STRAND." A Reddit user noticed that the timeline recorded the team traveling to Slovakia and the Czech Republic on June 23, 2024, and beginning scanning work in Slovakia the following day. The exhibition showcases studio archives and previously unreleased materials, rather than serving as an official announcement of the world-building or plot.
These environmental assets may only be used for individual scenes, or they could serve as references for the overall art and atmosphere design. Location scouting and scanning sites do not equate to the story's setting; there is currently no official statement confirming that OD's plot is set in Slovakia or the Czech Republic, nor can existing information determine specific cities, time periods, character routes, or the complete stage setting.
The timeline also shows that Kojima Productions scanned the appearances of the project's main actors in 2023, including Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and Udo Kier. OD was also known under the working title "OD – KNOCK," developed by Kojima Productions in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios, with director Jordan Peele involved in the project.
