During blind auditions for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, Nintendo inadvertently re-cast a voice actor from the original Nintendo 64 release. The actor was selected to reprise the same role they voiced back then, but Nintendo has not yet disclosed the identities of the actor or the character.
The development team aimed to recreate the original's sound and feel as faithfully as possible. HokWai Ng stated that casting prioritized finding voices that closely matched the originals. Eiji Aonuma mentioned that during the Japanese voice acting auditions, actors' names were deliberately concealed, forcing the team to make selections based solely on how similar the voices sounded to the original recordings.
After their identities were revealed, the staff discovered that the selected individual had voiced the same character in the original game, a result that surprised the team. Some players speculate that Kaori Mizuhashi, the original voice of Navi the Fairy, may be returning, but there is currently no official evidence to confirm this claim.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is scheduled for release on November 5, 2026, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of The Legend of Zelda series. A themed console and Pro Controller are planned for launch on October 29, while two new amiibo figures are set to arrive in 2027.
