PS5SX2 v2.30 Released: Original PS5 Can Achieve Up to 120 FPS via Frame Generation

Developer Sword has released PS5SX2 version 2.30. The new update allows first-generation PS5 consoles with system firmware below 9.00 to achieve up to 120 FPS output through frame interpolation, while also accelerating PS2 game emulation and launch speeds. Based on PCSX2, PS5SX2 offers features such as resolution upscaling, per-game parameter settings, and frame interpolation.

PS5SX2 2.30发布:初版PS5可插帧至最高120 FPS

Previously, output on the first-generation PS5 was limited to 40 or 80 FPS. The new version can convert 30 FPS to display at 60 FPS, or 60 FPS to display at 120 FPS. This 120 FPS refers to the final displayed frame rate after generating additional frames, not the game's native performance reaching 120 FPS. Enabling this mode requires a 120Hz display device and a stable original frame rate.

Version 2.30 accelerates CPU and GPU data processing as well as the EE recompiler, reducing GPU wait times. Launch times are shortened by approximately 0.4 seconds, and loading from physical discs can save up to about 2 seconds. Issues such as background log interruptions in games like "God of War" should also be reduced. The developer states that all games will benefit from these changes.

The new update also reduces frame interpolation latency, fixes brief freezes that may occur after loading screens end or when exiting the pause menu, and improves frame interpolation performance at 4K resolution. On first-generation PS5 consoles with low firmware, frames can be generated at 1080p and then upscaled to 4K to reduce processing load.

This update also improves the reliability of virtual memory card writes and fixes issues related to USB booting and accessing BIOS, settings, and save files. The developer recommends restarting the console once after installing version 2.30.
