New Atari Jaguar Title "Crazy Taxi" Released: Urban Driving Meets Timed Point Rushing

Crazy Taxi, a 3D arcade racing game created by Dr Ludos for JagJam 2026, has launched on the Atari Jaguar. Developed over six months, the game allows players to drive freely around the city, with the core objective being to continuously reach markers before the countdown ends.

At the start of each round, players have 29 seconds to follow red arrows to find and reach markers. Each marker reached earns 1 point and adds 5 seconds to the timer. Players must navigate roads between buildings while avoiding buses, police cars, and oncoming traffic. Collisions send opponent vehicles flying and significantly reduce the player's speed.

The game offers two top-down perspectives: one similar to Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, and the other adopting the traditional top-down camera seen in titles prior to Grand Theft Auto III. The 3D templates, sound engine, music, vehicle models, and sound effects used during development were contributed by members of the retro homebrew community.

Dr Ludos has released the fully commented source code under the MIT license, and the game itself is available for free. Testers feel that the current version is still quite basic and rough, but find the high-score chasing loop appealing; the highest score achieved by a tester was 38 points, surpassing the developer's score of 31.
