VAIA Survey: 94% of Game Studios Use AI, with a Median Integration Score of Only 3

VAIA has released a survey on AI adoption among game studios. 94% of the surveyed studios have adopted related tools in at least one of nine game production stages, but the median self-rated level of integration across overall production workflows is only 3 out of 10.

The study is based on 101 confidential one-on-one interviews with studio managers or decision-makers. The interviews were conducted from April to September 2026, with samples primarily from North America and Europe. In the survey, 97% of respondents stated they had used AI in some form, and 52% of participants rated their studio's process integration level at 3 or lower.

In terms of specific uses, 86% of the surveyed studios use AI for programming and engineering tasks, 83% for improving general work efficiency, and 79% for concept design or pre-production. The adoption rate for art, assets, and animation is 60%, while narrative and world-building stand at 55%, with even lower adoption rates for player data analysis and monetization.

Regional data also shows variations. European managers gave an average integration depth score of 4.2, while North American managers gave 3.5. The adoption rates for AI in art, assets, and animation were 70% and 53%, respectively.

Adam Boyes, founder of Vivrato, believes that merely asking studios whether they use AI is no longer sufficient to explain the technology's actual impact, as there is a clear distinction between task planning and directly generating final content. Vivrato also sells AI integration reports and consulting services; the company states that its findings were verified by independent industry analysts, but its commercial interests and the sample scope, primarily focused on North America and Europe, should still be taken into account when interpreting the results.
