The Elder Scrolls VI Announcement Trailer Sparks Speculation About Connections to Skyrim

Bethesda has released a short non-gameplay trailer confirming that the next installment in the series is titled The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel. This is the first new trailer since its debut at E3 2018, prompting players to analyze visual details for clues about the potential direction of the story.

The trailer features a quote from an in-world character, an Elder Scroll gradually emerging from the sand, and a spiral pattern, but Bethesda provided no further explanation of the plot. The quote is dated to the 206th year of the Fourth Era, just five years after the events of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Since Skyrim borders Hammerfell, some players speculate that the return of dragons and the Civil War between the Empire and the Stormcloaks might be mentioned.

Other analyses link the quote to parallel timelines and time travel, concepts already established in the series' lore. Players have also compared the circular rune in the trailer to the Eye of Magnus from The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. This artifact was taken by the Psijic Order at the end of the College of Winterhold questline. This mysterious, ancient group has long studied ancient history and the "Old Ways."

This has led to theories that the story might involve a group using the Eye of Magnus to travel back in time, interfering with the creation of the Elder Scrolls or vying for their power. However, it remains unclear whether these elements in the trailer are actually connected; such narrative speculations are based on fan analysis and have not been confirmed by Bethesda. The Elder Scrolls VI: Sentinel may still be more than two years away from release.
