Recently, foreign media outlet GTA6 Countdown cited data miner Tex2, who claimed that the uncompressed raw assets of GTA 6 exceed 400GB. Thanks to Rockstar's proprietary RPF resource packaging and compression technology, the final pre-load installation size has been compressed to 212GB. It should be noted that this information comes solely from the data miner and has not been officially confirmed by Rockstar Games.
RPF is a proprietary resource packaging format exclusive to the RAGE engine, used to bundle massive amounts of game assets such as models, textures, maps, and audio. Previous entries in the series have consistently utilized this compression scheme, which reduces hard drive usage without compromising asset quality.
Rockstar Games previously confirmed that GTA 6 requires up to 212GB of available storage space for pre-loading. Pre-loading begins on November 10, with the official launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles scheduled for November 19. Even after compression optimization, 212GB places it among the largest titles in console gaming, prompting many players to start clearing space on their console hard drives.
This leak also indirectly highlights the vast scale of scenes, textures, and interactive resources within GTA 6's open world.
