Japan's hardware and software sales charts for October 2026 show Ace Combat 8 in first place with 85,000 copies. The three platform versions of Final Fantasy: Resonance sold a combined 133,000 copies, exceeding the single-version champion. According to Famitsu's monthly data (covering September 28 to October 25), the PS5 version of Ace Combat 8 sold 85,729 copies, securing the top spot in October's software sales.
These figures use two different metrics: single-SKU ranking and multi-platform combined totals. Ace Combat 8 topped the charts based on single-platform sales, while Final Fantasy: Resonance's 133,000 copies came from summing its three platform versions. Specifically, the Switch 2 version sold 52,268 copies, the PS5 version 50,452, and the Switch version 30,471, for a combined total of 133,191. Since Famitsu ranks by individual SKU, the three versions appear at different positions, meaning their high combined sales do not translate to a top spot on the main chart.
This discrepancy in statistical methodology is evident in both monthly and weekly rankings. In the weekly chart for October 19–25, Nintendo Switch Sports Resort led with 64,632 copies for a single version, while the three versions of Final Fantasy: Resonance ranked second through fourth. In the monthly summary, however, Ace Combat 8 took the top spot thanks to its cumulative sales throughout October, whereas Final Fantasy: Resonance, released later (on October 22), only had its first week's data counted. The "number one" status for each title corresponds to different statistical dimensions and does not represent a direct sales competition.
