Cage discussed the casting choice at the premiere of his new film Madden. He stated that Gosling would shape the role in his own way, noting that the two had pleasant conversations and have stayed in touch. Cage expressed happiness for Gosling landing the role and wished him success in the upcoming filming.

Gosling had previously expressed interest in the Ghost Rider role. Current reports indicate that the new version of the character will appear after Avengers: Secret Wars, with discussions placing it within the context of a potential soft reboot of the MCU.
