"The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" remake for Nintendo Switch 2 was officially released on November 5. With the game's launch, Sam Altman's previously revealed plans to play have once again drawn attention, and jokes about "global AI development possibly coming to a temporary halt" have appeared on social media platforms.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman expressed his anticipation for the remake on his personal X account on September 9, calling it the best news he had heard in a long time. He also mentioned that he would be "away" on November 5 and 6, preparing to buy cases of Mountain Dew.
On November 4, Shota Imai, CEO of GenesisAI, posted that Meta's head of AI development had recently been seen wearing a "The Legend of Zelda" T-shirt, speculating that they might also pause work to play. This interaction continued the ongoing joke and does not mean that these companies have actually halted R&D or experienced business disruptions.
Some players on X even said they were taking time off work for the game, while others lamented not being able to take a break. The original version of "The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time" was released in 1998, and the remake, arriving 28 years later, has still sparked extensive discussion on its release day.
