Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick addressed concerns about the company's overreliance on GTA VI. He stated that Take-Two has 15 franchises that have each sold at least 5 million copies, indicating that the company's business is not built solely on one new title.
Zelnick made these remarks at the WSJ Tech event held in Napa Valley, California. The questioner noted that despite the high anticipation for GTA VI, Take-Two's stock price remains more than 20% below its historical peak. Zelnick did not directly address the stock price trend, instead emphasizing the company's strong portfolio of proprietary IPs.
In addition to Grand Theft Auto, he cited the Red Dead Redemption series and its online component, as well as NBA 2K, WWE 2K, BioShock, Borderlands, and Civilization. The mobile business also includes Words With Friends, Empires & Puzzles, and Zynga Poker, with products spanning consoles, PC, online services, and mobile platforms.
Zelnick also stated that Red Dead Redemption has sold over 65 million copies, while NBA 2K is the second-largest sports game brand globally and the largest in North America. However, his response neither denied the importance of GTA VI to market expectations nor disclosed the recent revenue share of each series. He had previously stated that the game is worth the wait, while acknowledging the high costs and long development cycles of major titles.
