"Ninja JaJaMaru: Legend of the Night Parade" will feature lightweight loot-based action gameplay. Development is currently about 80% complete, allowing for a full playthrough from start to finish. The game is scheduled to launch on PS5, Steam, and Switch 2 in 2027.
After City Connection announced the title at its 20th-anniversary event, the development team explained the origins of the gameplay shift. The producer and two core members had deeply played Diablo IV around the same period, which sparked the idea of "making a loot-based game with ChaChaMaru."
The team doesn't want players to have to invest a lot of time chasing extreme stats. Instead, they aim to make the game accessible to those unfamiliar with loot-based genres, while retaining the fun of gear progression and replayability. Different weapons will change the feel of actions and combat styles, and players can collect materials to upgrade their weapons.
The game is based on the concept of "Hyakki Yagyō" (Night Parade of One Hundred Demons), turning the yokai procession into a lively nighttime party. Enemies include Nekomata, Azukiarai, Gyūki, Dorotabō, and new characters. The "DJ Catfish Underground Arena," separate from the main story, provides endgame challenge content.
Base rooms offer over 250 placeable objects, and furniture affects stats. The team will next focus on adjusting the UI, sound effects, level design, and difficulty curve. They hope to release the game in the early part of 2027, but no specific date has been announced yet.
