T2 CEO Explains GTA 6 Delay: Cannot Launch with Issues

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, discussing the multiple delays of GTA 6, stated that while delays are costly and inconvenient for all parties involved, they are sometimes a necessary choice to maintain creative direction and deliver the best possible entertainment product.

Zelnick admitted that the decision to delay was very difficult. However, he also emphasized that management would not agree to all delay requests, citing an example where he had decided internally at Take-Two to release another title on its original schedule.

He believes that if a company mechanically adheres to schedules while ignoring the actual state of the product, the game could incur even greater costs after launch. He also mentioned that a highly anticipated game had to be pulled from sale after its release in recent years, though he did not disclose the title.

These remarks may have been an allusion to Cyberpunk 2077's early removal from the PlayStation Store and subsequent refund offer due to technical issues, but this is merely media speculation and has not been confirmed by Zelnick. According to him, for a highly anticipated project like GTA 6, delaying may be a necessary cost to avoid launching with serious problems.
