NieR: Automata Steam Update Causes Installation Size to Balloon to 366GB for Some Users

After the Steam language support update for NieR:Automata, some players encountered abnormal storage requirements when installing the base game and additional content. The originally expected ~50GB space requirement could balloon to 366GB, and actual installation tests confirmed this was not merely a typo on the store page.

One theory suggests that the installation data may be counting the full game size repeatedly for each DLC item, resulting in the 366GB total when multiple contents are combined. The Steam store page still lists a 50GB requirement, and the anomaly seems to appear only when attempting to install the game or download updates after purchase.

This update added support for Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Player feedback has been mixed: some reported that installation requirements have returned to normal, while others still see inflated download or installation sizes. The issue has also triggered some negative reviews and temporarily prevented some users from playing.

As of the latest reports, neither Square Enix nor PlatinumGames has publicly acknowledged the issue or announced a timeline for a comprehensive fix. Since an official hotfix has not been confirmed, players should verify the actual storage size before reinstalling the game or downloading updates.
