Recently, EA announced the re-release of 25 classic PC games, featuring titles such as Road Rash, Wing Commander, Ultima, and Crusader: No Remorse, now available on Steam, GOG, and the EA App.
Among them, Road Rash and six Wing Commander-related games received Anniversary Editions. EA stated that these versions preserve the original look, feel, and creative intent, while adding support for modern systems and control schemes, and improving performance.
The project originated when the team discovered a physical archive containing thousands of Betacam, VHS, D1 videotapes, and other media materials. The digitization process allowed the team to recover lost full-motion video masters, re-editing and restoring over 1,500 game scenes; the updated Wing Commander titles also officially integrate some community mods.
The listed prices show that the Anniversary Editions of Road Rash and Wing Commander are priced at $9.99, while other classic titles are priced at $4.99. Players who already own relevant Wing Commander games on GOG or the EA App can receive the new versions for free, and a special price for the complete collection is available until November 19.
The value of this release lies not only in bringing old titles to current storefronts, but also in leveraging original archives to improve visuals and resolve compatibility issues with modern hardware.
