According to foreign media reports, the action-adventure game 1666: Amsterdam, developed by Panache Digital Games, has now launched in Early Access on PC. The game features a dual-protagonist design, where players will hunt down evil entities hiding among the citizens of 17th-century Amsterdam.
One of the protagonists, Noah, can use magic and spells passed down through her family for generations. She needs to track down targets known as "Primordials" throughout the city. These targets each have names and addresses and live as ordinary citizens; Noah must find ways to expose their true identities.
The other protagonist, Aaron, was originally a university lecturer. He traveled from 300 years in the future but somehow turned into a cat. Players need to utilize Aaron's small size and ability to meow, combined with Noah's mysterious powers, to advance the investigation.
The game features a day-night cycle, and the world of 1666 changes with the phases of the moon. Using abilities in crowds during the day carries risks, so players must act cautiously; at night, the Primordials reveal their true nature, allowing Noah to confront them with her staff and spells. The full moon night is referred to as "Esbat" in the game.
Panache Digital Games was founded by Patrice Désilets, who previously served as the creative director for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and the Assassin's Creed series. The studio also released Ancestors: The Humankind Odyssey, a survival game centered on human evolution, in 2019.
1666: Amsterdam experienced twists such as copyright transfers during the 2010s. Its prologue was revealed at the Summer Game Fest in June 2026. On August 20, the number of wishlist registrations for the game surpassed 666,666.
