Take-Two Refuses to Disclose GTA 6 Pre-Order Numbers: Afraid of Shocking Everyone?

Recently, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated in an interview with foreign media that pre-order enthusiasm for GTA 6 is unprecedented, far exceeding internal company expectations, but the company will not release specific total pre-order figures.

Zelnick gave two reasons: First, pre-orders support unconditional refunds, so current orders do not equate to actual sales. Second, the pre-order demand curve this time is unprecedented in the industry, with many players who would have waited until launch placing orders early. The massive pre-orders simply pull forward future sales. Releasing raw data could mislead investors' judgment of the game's long-term market performance.

Zelnick also revealed player pre-order preferences, noting that the $100 Ultimate Edition had higher预订 volumes than the $80 Standard Edition, as fans are more willing to purchase the complete digital content bundle. Addressing the controversy over the $80 price increase, he argued that the game's pricing is extremely reasonable and aligned with its content volume, emphasizing that "game price increases have always lagged behind inflation rates."

The player community is clearly not buying Take-Two's decision to refuse to disclose pre-order figures for GTA 6. Some believe T2 is stalling, while others joke: "Is T2 afraid the numbers are so high they'll crash the stock price?"

GTA 6 will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19. The gameplay demo will premiere exclusively on Netflix on August 27, followed by a release on Rockstar's official YouTube channel six hours later. The release date will not be delayed further, and complete sales data will be disclosed during the earnings call after the game's launch.
