TeraFab Factory Projected to Exceed 100 Million Square Feet, Becoming the World's Largest Single Building

This March, Elon Musk announced that his aerospace company SpaceX and AI enterprise xAI would jointly launch the super chip manufacturing project codenamed "TeraFab," which will be the largest semiconductor foundry plan in history. The project will be located in Grimes County, Texas, USA, and will be a fully integrated mega-factory covering key processes such as logic chips, memory chips, and advanced packaging.

Terafab工厂预计建筑面积超1亿平方英尺 全球最大单体建筑

According to Tom's Hardware, most large factories take years from conception to construction, but just months after the Terafab project was announced, groundwork had already begun. The Terafab factory is expected to have a building area exceeding 100 million square feet, making it larger than Giga Texas in Texas (10 million square feet), the Pentagon (6.6 million square feet), Apple Park (2.82 million square feet), and the Mall of America (5.6 million square feet). It also far surpasses China's New Century Global Center in Chengdu (18.9 million square feet).

In fact, Elon Musk had already discussed this project late last year, though it wasn't officially announced until March of this year. NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang views the Terafab project as an "extremely difficult" challenge, but it appears Elon Musk is willing to invest significant resources into it.

Although he has led many major projects, Terafab remains Elon Musk's largest undertaking to date, with an estimated total investment of $119 billion.
