Christopher Judge, the voice of Kratos in the God of War series, slammed the creators of Amazon's upcoming God of War series for not involving the original game's creators in the adaptation. At FanExpo, the actor expressed his confusion over this approach: bringing a successful game IP to television without engaging the people who created it.
Judge said, "My issue with all game adaptations is: you already have a successful project, but the first thing you do is not hire anyone associated with it." What particularly baffled the actor was Amazon's decision not to involve the writers of the God of War games in the series production. "When Amazon announced the God of War series without hiring any of the God of War game writers... what were you thinking? These people have been immersed in this world for 20 years. Is there really someone who suddenly understands this world better than they do?"
Judge also drew a comparison to The Last of Us. He stated that if an adaptation largely repeats the game's storyline, he doesn't understand why the original cast and creative team would be replaced.
