Recently, IGN released a behind-the-scenes video showcasing the motion capture process for the Chinese action game Phantom Blade Zero. Reportedly, Tristan Ogilvie, Senior Video Editor at IGN Sydney, was invited to S-Game's Shanghai studio in 2025 to gain an in-depth look at their groundbreaking kung fu motion capture techniques, and to speak with Game Director Liang Qiwei and Donnie Yen himself.
Behind-the-Scenes Video:
According to Tristan, the S-Game team is clearly going all out to bring their bold and thrilling vision of "Kungfu Punk" to life. Bringing on Donnie Yen as co-producer for this wuxia-inspired action RPG ensures that every kick, punch, and dazzling sword strike is presented with ultimate realism and breath-taking intensity.
On set, Tristan witnessed Donnie Yen's team perform a series of breathtaking wire stunts and bold martial arts moves, which was truly spectacular. It wasn't until he saw a stunt performer balancing a baby prop on the edge of a sword before tossing it into the air that he realized he was witnessing something truly crazy and highly creative. As it turns out, Donnie Yen is not only playing a crucial role in the creation of Phantom Blade Zero, but he is also helping to pioneer an exciting new approach to motion capture in gaming.
