Marvel's Wolverine Director Responds to Controversy: It's Proof of Fan Passion

Insomniac Games is set to release Marvel's Wolverine on September 15. Addressing potential criticism surrounding the game's launch, Studio Director Mike Daly stated in a recent interview that the team is "used to it" and considers it a "sweet problem"—as it signifies players' passion for Insomniac's work.

In an interview with The Gamer, Daly pointed out that similar controversies arose after the release of the Marvel's Spider-Man series. Even though the team created a "well-loved, excellent game," some players would still "find something to complain about." He remains unconcerned, stating, "Our goal isn't to satisfy what those criticisms point to, but to focus on creating the best possible game for this character."

Daly emphasized that Marvel's Wolverine is a work "entirely focused on the character of Wolverine," and the team is confident in the game's quality.

Marvel's Wolverine went gold last week, meaning main development is complete and the team is shifting focus to post-launch support. Project Director Jess Reiner-Reed confirmed that the physical disc version contains the full playable game and does not require a mandatory online download. However, she still "encourages players to download the day-one patch," which includes optimizations and bug fixes the team continued working on in the months leading up to release.

Daly also explained why the Marvel's Wolverine project was announced as early as 2021. He stated that due to the high level of interest, keeping it secret was extremely difficult, so the team chose to announce it proactively to maintain transparency when recruiting developers. Additionally, Insomniac has long developed multiple projects in parallel, and early announcement helps in合理安排 (rationally arranging) team resources to ensure efficient progress across all projects.

Marvel's Wolverine will be released as a PS5 exclusive, with the Digital Deluxe Edition and included skins showcased in last week's trailer.
