During last night's PlayStation State of Play presentation, Sony unexpectedly unveiled Grand Theft Auto VI-themed DualSense wireless controllers, available in black and white variants. This marks the first time the title has been featured in an official merchandise capacity during a Sony presentation since its announcement.
According to Sony's official blog, these two controllers will be released as a "global limited edition." Pre-orders begin on September 10, with each controller priced at $85. The official release date is set for November 19, coinciding with the launch of GTA 6. The controllers will be available through the PlayStation Direct online store and "select retailers."
In terms of design, both controllers feature palm tree engravings on the grips, a prominent GTA 6 "VI" logo on the touchpad, and the classic Grand Theft Auto series logo on the back. Additionally, the D-pads and button areas on both the white and black controllers are accented with pink highlights, creating a striking visual effect.
However, some players have pointed out a slightly awkward fact on social media: while GTA 6 has received themed physical controllers, the game itself will not have a physical disc release. This means players won't be able to hold a physical copy of the game in their hands, yet they can spend $85—$5 more than the $80 digital version of the game—to purchase a themed controller.
Sony stated that both controllers utilize an "iridescent color-shifting coating," which creates a flowing color effect under light. A showcase video highlighting this detail was aired during the State of Play presentation.
