The extended gameplay demo of GTA 6 broadcast on Netflix not only set records in live streaming data but also tangibly boosted hardware sales in the UK market.
According to Nielsen IQ statistics, PS5 sales increased by 33% month-over-month following the demo broadcast, while Xbox Series X|S also rose by 34%. More subtly, Switch 2 sales also grew by approximately 33%—even though the game will not be available on Nintendo's platform.
Analysts believe that the hype surrounding GTA 6 does have the ability to "raise the tide for the entire industry," but warns against getting carried away by the data.
Analyst Ronan Patrick pointed out that top-tier IPs like GTA 6 and Call of Duty will have a "noticeable but not overwhelmingly massive" impact on console install bases. In other words, while a sales spike is indeed visible in the short term, it is difficult for a single game to completely reverse the long-term trend of the entire hardware market.
Regardless, GTA 6 is undoubtedly one of the most important games of this generation. Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive have confirmed that the game will launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, 2026.
