Marvel Studios has added a 2029 release slot to its film schedule, with an untitled project set for November 9 of that year. Based on this, ComicBook speculates that the project could be Shang-Chi 2, which is still in development, but Marvel has not yet confirmed the film's identity.
Several Marvel films are already scheduled for release after Avengers: Secret Wars, including X-Men on May 5, 2028, Ghost Rider on July 28, and Black Panther 3 on December 15. The newly revealed 2029 slot currently has no announced title.
Among Marvel's announced projects, Armor Wars and Nova could also fit this slot. ComicBook lists Shang-Chi 2 as a candidate primarily because the sequel is still moving forward and director Destin Daniel Cretton's next Marvel project has not yet been clarified.
Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings was released on September 3, 2021, grossing $432.2 million worldwide against a $200 million production budget. Shortly after its release, a sequel entered development in late 2021, with Cretton slated to return as director, but the project has since lacked a confirmed release date.
Shang-Chi has not returned to live-action projects since his first film, appearing only in animated form. Under the current schedule, he will make his live-action return in Avengers: Doomsday, marking the character's first appearance in a live-action work since his solo movie.
Destin Daniel Cretton confirmed in June 2026 that Shang-Chi 2 is still in development. However, Marvel has not announced specific production progress or a release date for the film, so the link between the November 9, 2029 slot and Shang-Chi 2 remains purely speculative among foreign media outlets.
